The World Series failed to crack 200,000 viewers for any game during the Kansas City Royals’ five-game series win. The NFL remained king on Sunday.
The Kansas City Royals’ World Series-clinching extra-inning Game Five win over the New York Mets was no match for Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning and the NFL on Sunday night in the head to head battle in primetime.
Sunday Night Football which featured a battle of undefeated teams in the Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos and two of the more popular players garnered 228,337 viewers in Orlando, beating the World Series which garnered 183,476 viewers according to Nielson.
The result is not a suprise as historically the Packers and Peyton Manning have brought lots of TV viewers in Orlando. In Week 1 this season WKMG-CBS picked Manning’s home opener as the Broncos hosted the Ravens over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers featuring Jameis Winston’s NFL debut hosting Marcos Mariota and the Tennessee Titans. And they reaped the rewards for it.
Sunday Night Football was not the only football game the World Series had fewer viewers than.
The Seattle Seahawks’ 12-10 win over the Dallas Cowboys right before the World Series on FOX had more viewers with 302,867 viewers.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ win over the Atlanta Falcons had more viewers than the World Series with 189,753 viewers in FOX’s 1 p.m. time slow.
Saturday’s Florida Gators dominant win over the Georgia Bulldogs had more viewers than any game of the World Series with 245,594 viewers according to Nielson.
All five World Series game failed to reach 200,000 viewers with the most watched being Sunday night’s Game Five. The World Series is the only major sporting championship game that has failed to reach 200,000 viewers in Orlando.
