Football impacts Orlando City TV ratings

1

Orlando City’s win over Sporting Kansas City on Sunday night drew 91,000 viewers nationally on Fox Sports 1.

The number is significantly down to what MLS usually draws on Fox Sports 1 in the 7 p.m. Sunday night-time slot. On June 14 on the same time slot, Orlando City’s win over D.C United drew 378,000 viewers, the highest rated MLS Game on Fox Sports 1 in that slot this season. Orlando City’s inaugural game vs New York FC on March 8 is still the highest rated broadcast at 579,000 viewers on ESPN2.

Keep in mind that Sept. 13 was the first Sunday the MLS and Orlando City went up head to head against the NFL. That might explain the dramatic decrease in viewers from that mid-summer game against D.C. United.

The Sunday Night Football opener between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys was the most watched sporting event of the weekend in Orlando. The Giants-Cowboys game had 286, 106 viewers in Orlando. The game drew more than 26 million viewers nationally.

UCF-Stanford not a Draw on Fox Sports 1

UCF’s 31-7 loss to Stanford on Fox Sports 1 late Saturday night drew 151,000 viewers nationally. The game kicked off after 10:30 p.m. Eastern. The game was not helped by the fact among the competition was LSU-Mississippi State game on ESPN, which was the most watched college football game on cable as it garnered more than 3 million viewers.

Florida State’s win over South Florida on ESPN Saturday drew 2.2 million viewers, which was also the most watched game in Orlando involving a team from the Sunshine State.

The Florida Gators win over East Carolina on Saturday night had 1,046,000 viewers. The game was shown on ESPN2. The Miami Hurricanes win over Florida Atlantic on Friday night on Fox Sports 1 had 666,000 thousand viewers nationally.
