Bishop Moore silences South Sumter’s record win streak

Bishop Moore ended South Sumter’s area regular season win streak with a dominant 34-14 performance Thursday night.

Bishop Moore has been consistent and powerful throughout the high school season so far. Their big offensive line led by Notre Dame commit Parker Boudreaux has steamrolled opponents.

Add South Sumter to the list.

South Sumter’s modern-era regular season win streak of 39 games ended at Bishop Moore’s hands Thursday with a 34-14 win at Bishop Moore.

Trilion Coles scored a touchdown at the end of the first half to give Bishop Moore a 21-7 lead and opened the game up with a touchdown pass after recovering a fumble in the third quarter. The Hornets simply dominated the Raiders with the Raiders making several self-inflicted mistakes — 11 penalties for 93 yards.

The Raiders did get to within seven points in the second quarter after an interception from Malik Bell and a touchdown run from J.T. Taylor to cap off a 51-yard drive. But Bishop Moore scored before the half and grinded out the game from there.

South Sumter never recovered.

The win over the highly decorated Raiders is another notch for the Hornets. Bishop Moore topped Edgewater earlier this year and still has a big matchup at Lake Brantley to close the regular season. The Hornets are the No. 4 team in the state in Class 5A according to FloridaHSFootball.com and No. 3 in the Orlando Sentinel Super 16.

Despite the small stature of the private school, the Hornets have built quite a football power and can make some claim to the best team in the area.
