Justin Holman to start for UCF vs. Connecticut

UCF will get its starting quarterback back this weekend. George O’Leary announced Justin Holman will start Saturday against the UConn Huskies.

Connecticut’s contrived and manufactured “Civil Conflict” just got a whole lot more interesting.

UCF coach George O’Leary announced on Open Mike with Mike Bianchi on 96.9 FM quarterback Justin Holman will return to the lineup this weekend and start for the Knights.

It is undoubtedly a big boost to the winless Knights as their leader and probably their best offensive player returns to the huddle.

Holman threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns in the game against FIU before he fractured his right index finger early in the game at Stanford. Holman’s hand hit a helmet as he followed through and was pulled from the game. In his stead, freshmen Bo Schneider and Tyler Harris have done their best to fill the void. But neither was particularly read for the task, particularly without a strong running game and injuries taking away the team’s top offensive lineman and top receiver.

No offense to those two players, it would seem Holman provides a whole different brand of confidence to this Knights team. It provides some hope.

Despite going 0-5 to start the season, the Knights are only 0-1 in conference play. Theoretically that means conference goals are still very much in play. UCF can recover with a win this week against Connecticut (UCF is favored, believe it or not) and get back into the conference race with some wins.

Having the starting quarterback and leader of the offense certainly makes winning this weekend feel a little bit more realistic. His return should be a confidence boost if not an actual boost with Holman’s experience and ability.
