Prepping for Orlando Magic season in the midst of the doldrums

0

The NBA season is in its deadest time right now.

There is not a lot going on. Only Andrew Nicholson, Evan Fournier and Mario Hezonja are playing organized basketball right now — they are all preparing for FIBA international tournaments for Olympic qualification. Otherwise, things are quiet over at the Amway Center.

That does not mean there is not a lot to talk about.

Last week, I joined Orlando Magic Daily co-editor Brett David Roberts to discuss the upcoming Magic season and the storylines we are following as the season draws closer.

You can listen to the podcast here:

Among the things we discussed:

  • Who should start at power forward for the Magic? Can Channing Frye be salvaged as a rotation player?
  • Can Dewayne Dedmon pair with Nikola Vucevic long term and maintain the Magic’s rebounding?
  • Are the Magic ready to win and what does it mean if they are not?
  • The importance of internal player development to 2016
  • Do the Magic have enough veterans to carry the young players through?
  • How good is the Magic’s depth?
  • What Scott Skiles brings as a coach and the influence of his presence and culture;
  • What is a realistic win expectation for the Magic?

In addition to that, late last week Orlando Magic Daily’s Zach Palmer joined the Instant Offense Podcast to preview the Orlando Magic’s season. You can listen to the podcast over at BBallBreakdown.

Among the things they discussed is how good Victor Oladipo can become and his place among the shooting guards in the NBA, what effect Scott Skiles’ hire might have on the team and what is going on with the Magic’s lineup.
